Marley's going to the vet

I have my annual open house sale this weekend.  This week has been busy filled with creating jewelry, planning a snack menu, cleaning the house up.... and then yesterday my cat Marley started acting her age. She's actually 15 years old. We got her in 1997 as a sweet little kitten.  I have a vet appoint in an hour. Of COURSE, she defies all logic and decides to race around the house this morning at top speed. So now the vet appointment feels kind of a silly but I suppose it's good that we go in case down the road I need to take her somewhere. I stopped taking her to the vet about 10 years ago as she really gets stressed out and we had a bad experience when they updated her shots, 3 at once, and she had an allergic reaction.  She stays indoors and isn't around other animals or any other pets so I figured why put her through all that??

I'll let you know how it goes. I expect that they may just tell me she's getting older and some days are better than others. I have noticed a small amount of weight loss, and have been seeing her drink more water lately. Leave it to me to totally become paranoid- but it's going to be good for my peace of mind.
merp.

  2. Hope she is ok, always hard when pets get up there in years. Good luck with the open house - hope it is a big success. Lovely pieces, and really LOVE the use of leather. Your book has encouraged me to add leather to my work, and I'm loving it. I did want to let you know that today's blog post for me is using your flirtation lariat pattern - which I adore! Your and Erin's book is almost always by my side these days when I'm looking for inspiration. Thank you for that.

  3. I hope Marley does well at her visit. She is a beautiful cat. We miss our pets. The bracelets are lovely and I look forward to seeing your Open house photo's. What does Joe do when your hosting a party/open house? Have a wonderful afternoon!

  4. Hope Marley is okay. Some cats experience weight loss and kidney problems in their senior years. Cats don't drink nearly as much water as dogs do and that contributes to the kidney problems. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a great outcome!

  5. I'm sure they will do a check for diabetes as well as kidney functions. Neither are unusual for an older cat, but both are really manageable. I take care of many kitties that have these issues and they do fine with a little extra care. (And, I agree with you about the shots. None of mine get them after 2 years old.)

  7. No cats here anymore but we know the stress of age changes in pets. We've got an older dog that goes to the vet more often than we go to the doctor. But, hey, they are our furry babies, right? Worth it.

Good luck with your home show.

    1. Thank you!! I will hug her for you. She's a brat and wouldn't go in the cat carrier so I forfeited and rescheduled her appt. gah!

  10. Poor Marley! We had a cat that went through that in the last year of her life - 15 is a ripe old age for a cat, and maybe it's just her age getting to her. Hope all is well, and that your open house is a smashing success! (BLOG MOB!!!)

  11. Oh your poor baby kitty. I hope the vet visit goes well. I completely understand about being hesitant about going to the vet, I'm the same way about my kitties. Best wishes.

Also, this is the first time I've seen your header and I LOVE IT!!

  13. BlogMob link brought me.. since me feed has apparently decided to stop updating your posts >.< Obviously time to grab the fictional rubber mallet and start threatening to clobber blogger again;) ( hey,it worked the last couple times it removed links form my list ;) )

My cat is 14 ( I think.. possibly 15.. time flies >.< , and it's the same with him. He's indoors, has no contact with other animals and stresses over cars and vets, so why continue to stress him out? He's had some weight loss, but since I gave up the younger cat, he's been eating a lot better... obviously I wasn't the only one being stressed and made ill by having the second cat in the house. He'll have days where he acts his age, sleeping all day and barely moving aside from making his meal time demands.. and just when I start to worry, he's up and tearing around the house like a kitten! so I'm sure the vet will say she's fine and chock it up to her getting older ;)

good luck at your openhouse :)

  17. Love the disk bracelet so simple yet so stunning. And the little leather wraps around the beads to die for.

  18. Have you thought about putting the cat carrier with a nice towel or blanket scrap somewhere in the house for Marley to use as a napping spot/hideout??? Maybe that would get her accustomed to it and she wouldn't associate it with something unpleasant. Lots of kitties don't travel well, so her behavior is certainly not unusual. It's a good idea to get her to the vet for a check-up at her age. Maybe they will want to see some changes in her diet to help her in her senior years. Good luck!
