Karen Totten Hoop Challenge: The Reveal

Thank you for stopping by to see the newest reveal of my blog challenge. There are 7 of us participating in this current challenge. We each got ceramic hoops from artist, Karen Totten of Starry Road Studio.  The object was to create jewelry using the 3 glazed hoops.  I love challenges like these because something like hoops can be used in so many different ways. It's been so crazy around here though, so I didn't get as creative as I had wanted to due to the time I alotted for this project. But alas, I will share with you what I made....

First up. A bracelet!  It was nice that the smallest of the hoops was still big enough that I could pair it with something else in the center.... I picked out this keyhole connector from Earthenwood Studio. Use that big 6mm waxed linen cording from the Jewelry Accord shop, I did some macrame down each side of the bracelet using some pretty coordinating ceramic rounds from Marsha Neal Studio. My favorite is the eensy weensy key charm from Wynwood's at the end of the extender chain.

My second necklace...- I altered the large green hoop by tying some half-hitch knots using rust orange waxed linen cording from Jewelry Accord,  and some matte orange seed beads around the hoop and dangled an acorn in the center of the focal. The pewter Squirrel bead from Green Girl ties the whole autumn theme in nicely! I used some indonesian glass beads and some faceted ruby jade rounds for a pop of color.

My last piece is a necklace. I did some asymmetrical for this one, using some lampwork glass discs I just got from Classy Sassy, and some colorful purple beading wire from Soft Flex company! Weaved the wire in and out of the glass discs using this technique. I added a sweet new owl bead from Humblebeads, with a crown (upside down bead cap from Vintaj!)  The silk ribbon up around the back adds a nice splash of purple and makes for a comfy fit.

I can't wait to see what everyone else did with there hoops. Check out the blog hop list below!
 ENJOY!

  2. Great fun! The wrapped hoop with linen cord is very clever. I especially like the bracelet, the way the keyhole connector fits in so nicely and the little key charm on the clasp. All three pieces are great!

  3. First i love the use of macrame carrying the rhythm of the hoop scalloped edges thru the design of your bracelet. I think your Autumn necklace captures my love of the season - the texture you added to that hoop is really a nice accent! All are inspirational...

  4. Really like the discs and use of the SoftFlex product. I have never used this product before, will you reveal the size/diameter you used in this particular project or common size you enjoy working with?

    1. I use .19 medium beading wire a lot. that's what this purple wire is. it's pretty universal.... but for this project you could even use a thicker wire to make more of a presence! :)
