sweet tooth

It's 2:30pm. I am at work and craving something sweet like you would not believe. My goal this weekend is to buy ingredients for these two snacks you see here. Top: Berry Smoothie. I found this recipe on Pinterest, but it comes from The Shoebox Kitchen blog. A simple concoction of mixed frozen berries, banana (eww!), Greek yogurt and apple juice.  Gonna have to get over that loathing of bananas really quick. I'm sure you can't taste them when they are all mixed up in this fruity treat, right?

Below: Chocolate Granola. Perfect for snacking or even breakfast. Oats, cocoa, almonds, honey or agave nectar, vanilla extract, and chocolate chips. This seems like a nice and easy treat to bag up and keep in the office for desperate times like these. This recipe is from My Little Celebration.
If you have other ideas for a sweet but healthy snacks, please leave me links!

  1. peel, chunk & freeze bananas for your smoothies. they really do add a creaminess to your smoothies, play around w/ amounts & you'll find the line of too much banana vs. just right!

  2. Mmm! Sounds good! And yes, I'm sure you can't really taste the bananas! ;-) My older sister is a banana loather too, but we did convince her to try homemade banana pudding and a SLICE of banana... she almost admitted to liking it! LOL

Have fun! The only thing I'm baking these days is beads, and judging by the smell of hot polymer they wouldn't taste very good! :-P

  3. No bananas Lorelei?!?! Is it the banana flavor or the consistency of the fruit? As far as a smoothie goes I think it just makes things a little thicker and creamier so that you aren't just drinking a juice slush. It also smooths it out a bit and adds some natural sweetness. When we make em we can taste a little bit of the banana, but we tend to put a couple in. Peanut butter too sometimes:)

  4. Add 2 big handfuls of spinach to the smoothie (I promise you can't taste it!). I have one every day for lunch :) Delish. I want to try that granola. Let us know how it is.

  6. The smoothie & the granola sound really good...bananas & all! Here is one of my favorite recipes: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/michael-chiarello/michaels-energy-bars-recipe/index.html
I don't use the apricots. I like dried cranberries, cherries or blueberries & I add a little cinnamon as well. I don't chop up the dried fruit like it says either.

  9. Soy milk, cocoa powder, and Stevia packets to your sweet preference, blended like a smoothie. It's like a chocolate milkshake. You can also add any leftover coffee. Ice cubes for coldness and texture if you want, but unnecessary. I'm going to make one right now.

  11. Good Lord, not sure what I think about Kylie's spinach idea!! I love spinach and I love smoothies....I'm not sure I ever want to two to meet though ;-) I would just leave the banana out of that smoothie too - if you've got yoghurt in there you should be fine. I really don't like smoothies with banana in, I can always taste it through the other fruit.....and I actually like bananas! Hmmm, I'm coming over as really fussy here....

  13. Really like the new blog! It's the kind of thing that if you were to change the background color, you'd have a whole new look! But I like the tan for this time of year!

  15. Those are two things we snack on often. (Not those two EXACTLY, but smoothies and granola are regulars around here.)
A little bit of dark chocolate is always a good thing. I'm all stuffed up right now and not thinking clear so when I think of some of our other sweet/healthy snacks I'll let you know!

  16. As a fellow LOATHER of bananas, I will warn you that yes, you CAN taste the awful things, even when it's all mixed together. Do what I do - leave it out. Your tastebuds will thank you. :0>
