Simply Zen
You can tell I was in a very zen mood last night. Feeling relaxed, putting together simple designs that emmulate this relaxed feeling. Nothing fussy. I woke up this morning with the same feeling.
And then I spent the morning with my coffee, watching and being totally mesmerized by watching Geninne paint. She's so talented. I love the music she uses in these videos. I didn't watch them in order but you can if you want, just scroll down to the bottom of this page.
eNjoY!

Goodies from the past week
I don't have any new jewelry to show you today. I REALLY want to show you what I made last night but it's probably not kosher to show off jewelry that was made for a pretty big competition... so you'll have to wait. Which is really too bad, because according my lovely hubsand, he thinks I'mma gonna win. Awww isn't he sweet? If only he knew what jewelry "wins"- it's a lot more fabulous than mine!
So instead I thought I'd show off some of my goods from the past week.
First up, more of Kelley's Eggs. I can't help it, they are just so gorgeous!! I loved the new brown and white. I guess she made some more last night. I am gonna be so broke. (shaking head in shame)
This is one of Pam's new pieces. Pam's shop is so great- Indian Creek Studios. If you haven't checked it out yet, go now. It's so rustic. I love all of her work. I bought this little owl pendant, along with some beads that are just fantastic.
I saw this and immediately hit the purchase button. Heather Wynn's components are some of the few that I will really splurge on. No matter the price. I love how she did 2 colors of poly clay on this pendant, and there are nice little links at the bottom to hang little treasures on!
This is a sticker book that I got from Yaelfran. I have had a sticker addiction since I was 11 years old. (Probably longer) I have always been a Mrs. Grossman's Sticker fan, and I love to peruse the sticker aisle at Michael's. Lately my packaging process includes jewelry packaged in a nice brown Kraft gift box. Wrapped with some adorable Washi tape like this, and then a nice little focal sticker on top of the box. It's a simple packaging technique but it works well for me, it's quick, and I can change my mood depending on the sticker I use. These stickers feature artwork from 8 Etsy artists!
This enamel bangle set was a gift to myself. I swear I need more jewelry like I need a hole in the head but I just couldn't resist the totally cute bangle sets at Bullfinch Barbury. Lia made this set especially for me, wait. did I already tell you about this? Deja Vu.
Anyway, those are some of things that I bought. Now here are a few things that I am coveting this week...
Hope you all have a great Wednesday!!

Running out the door...
These two lovelies just landed in my etsy shop. The one above is another new design using one of Heather Wynn's quote sticks, this time paired with a Mamacita Beadworks pewter bird bead, and one of Jubilee's fun little ceramic house beads.
The necklace below features one of Barbara Fajardo's polyclay flower beads. I showed them on the blog awhile back and finally am getting around to using them now. I hand-knotted the beads onto brown waxed linen cording. A variety of different glass beads, with some wood rounds and nuggets, some fluted glass, a Kelley bead mixed in and some brown seeds. The clasp is a handmade wire clasp from MissFickleMedia.
I am mailing out 7 packages of earrings this morning and hope to get more out the door by the end of today, if I can. If you are participating in the earring swap, you need to email me with your address!! Thanks!!!

Sunday Funday
Can you feel the excitement? Something big is brewing in the L.E. studio.... Here's a bit of a sneak peek of the earrings for the Big Earring Swap of 2010 (happening TOMORROW!)
The earring swap isn't for earrings. I'm swapping earrings for BEADS. So tune in tomorrow, around 12:00est Noon. (there are 18 pairs here!)
I filled some bezels this weekend. I made a couple of earring pairs using the Patera bezels from BelloModo.com. They turned out pretty cute, just using some scrapbook paper I had on hand. BUT, (can you hear me cursing all the way up here in NY) one of the floral bezels got a bubble. It's my own fault, since I didn't babysit them for an hour after they were done. So now I'm not sure what to do. Create earring with them anyway, and hope the buyer doesn't mind? Or just use one, and ditch the bubbled one?
I also filled my recent Owl bracelet. One of it's bezels also got an "after-thought" bubble. Dang it!! But it's still super cute. I shall try to make a couple more of these owl bracelets this upcoming week. I think my cousin Carey wants this one. :)
See you tomorrow for the big swap!

Thursday goods
Can you tell I was inspired by flowers last night? I am just totally smitten with Spring. I also wonder if I should have been a Florist. If I had to do it all again, I might consider it. The earrings that I am showing here, got scooped up already by another Flower Fanatic. But the bracelet and the necklace both still available in the shop, in case you're interested.
I am excited to get the mail today. And tomorrow too. I have some really cute bracelets on their way to me. Enameled metal bangles from Bulfinch Barbury. Lia made me this custom set. I can't wait!
I am also waiting for some more bezels to come from Bello Modo... MORE RESIN PROJECTS this weekend!
And I ordered some really great egg beads from Kelley and I'll include them in my video tutorial that I have planned for Studio Saturday at the Art Bead Scene! Aren't you excited!!?? I AM! or, I drank too much coffee today. That could be it.

Experiences in Resin
I purchased some ICE resin from Fusion Beads last week, and it arrived Friday. I suppose at this point, now that it's in my possession, I have to at least try it out. So yesterday, I sat down and started filling my bezels. I have been collecting a few to try out this process with.
My first task was to fill the bezels. I pulled out a few sheets of PDF images I had printed up previously, plus a small bird book, and my first thought was- try to do something different. So I cut out circles that look like written word. And I painted little birds on each one (for the bracelet) with acrylic paints, and outlined them with details using an archival ink pen.
I was pleased with how they turned out. So I did another one of an owl for a small pewter bezel from Mamacita Beadworks. And another small singing bird on a branch, using a pewter bezel from Green Girl Studios. I colored these with colored pencil. The 1 copper bezels, I filled with scrapbook paper. The large circle pendant (Patera) I filled with the image of a hummingbird from the bird book. This all took me about 1.5 hours, of fussing, painting, coloring, cutting, gluing. Now it was time to get down to business.
I'm sorry that I didn't take photos as I was doing it. To be honest, the frustration level was high to begin with. I felt under pressure to mix it right the first time. So I'll try to describe the process.
I marked lines onto the measuring cup. I figured I'd go big and mix a whole cup worth. I poured in the hardener first, and then later read that it was the other one that I needed to start with. The hardener was supposed be second. Good Job Lor- nice job reading instructions.
I started stirring the concoction, and it was full of striations and bubbles. I stirred and stirred and stirred. For a few minutes at least. I let it sit for a few minutes. The resin came out quite cloudy... now after reading the instructions at IceResin.com, I knew it wasn't right.
That's when I hit Facebook to see if I could summon up some help. It was a slow day on FB though, but Marie of SkyeJewels was there to talk me through my frustration. I wasn't really sure what to do at that point, and my thought process was that maybe it will clear up once it's inside the bezel. So I poured the resin into 4 of my bezels, to which the result was yes, still cloudy. I was swearing at this point.
I start mixing a smaller second batch, this time pouring the 2 parts in the right order. The result- still bubbly and cloudy. While letting the first batch sit, I did some online surfing to try to get more tips, on the website, on the Objects and Elements blog... I let that first batch sit for about 15 minutes at least. I pick it up again. It feels like of warm, but not hot, and the resin has cleared up a bit and the bubbles had dissipated. I filled the bezels on the bracelet at this point, and it looked good. I wanted this piece to turn out over all of them, just because I was in love with the little painted birds. After filling all 5 bezels, and they were looking pretty clear, I decided to fill the remainder bezels but first, I had to dump out the previous cloudy resin. what.a.freakin. mess. I wouldn't recommend you do this, there was resin everywhere. (but not in my hair, KJ! so I felt a bit triumphant! LOL)
this one looks cloudy here but it dried completely clear.
I refilled them again with the clear resin and breathed a sigh of relief. I quickly picked up my resin mess, and moved onto jewelry for the rest of the day. whew!
Things I learned from the process.
- I would much rather buy premade pendants from my friends, to save myself from the hassel of this. But, I might try this process again in the near future, after seeing positive feedback about my little painted birds. This might be fun to do again but with owls, or trees, or whatever I can think up.
-Keep your husband away from the drying pendants. When I showed them to mine, he touched one of them and there was almost a total loss to the owl pendant.

Better Late than Never (?)
i'm not just a beader.
sometimes, I get brave and try out crafts too.
sometimes, I get brave and try out crafts too.
but will I be giving up my jewelry gig to do this?
not in a million years.
But sometimes, it's fun to try this kind of stuff out.
Vintaj Brass Co. sent me some of their new "Fastenables" along with some of their new "Black" line, (arte metal) and some Brass blanks! At first I felt intimidated... but then my metal hole punch arrived in the mail and all was good. I was on a roll.
I love how the blanks turned out. I hammered the edges a bit giving the pieces some extra interest and texture and poked some holes in them with my hole punch. I pulled out some of my small vintage buttons and wired a few on to decorate them. I even got brave and pulled out my letter stamps and tried my hand at the stamping again. Wish I had a lower case set, but for now, these work fine.
I also tried my hand at riveting. (butterfly in lower right corner) My one tip on that is, if you plan on trying it, it works better when you have a really flat surface and a flat metal surface. I tried 4-6 times with several curved brass pieces, and my rivet kept bending when I would hammer it, or the thing just wouldn't work at all and the pieces would pop apart as soon as I was done.
I bought some paints at Michaels, just acrylics.Nothing too expensive or fancy. I knew that I wanted to spruce up the black fastenables and painting them just seemed like the best way.
Pretty paints all in a row...
As you can see below, the flower starting popping right away after the
first few brush stokes of paint...
And below is the final result!
It is a bit more sassy, isn't it!?
I tried a few more while I was at it.
The other day I mentioned trying out a greeting card, and so I put something really simple together. Is it going to win any scrapbooking, paper ephemera awards? NO.
But I just wanted to show that it is a pretty easy craft, and didn't take me that long to put together. Other than the painting the butterfly I mean.
The letters are stickers.
Here is a close up of the butterfly on the paper.
I just shoved the points through the paper but probably should have punched holes first now that I see
how shoddy this looks.
Like I said, it ain't winning any awards.
I just embellished the top of the inside of the card with some Washi tape, and
another Vintaj decorative button.
Overall it turned out cute, and yes I am going to give it to my Momma come May 9th.
If anyone appreciates a good handmade card, it's my Mom. I've been making her cards
since I was a youngin'. I used to sign the back of my cards "Hillmark"
(my maiden name is Hill)
This weekend, I hope to try out my hand at playing with
Resin. Ice Resin in bezels. IF I can figure out
what the heck to put in them.
Stay tuned for that fun!

You Yo-Yo
i heart this bag.
My Momma made it.
But seriously.
If I keep one more bag, or obtain one more purse,
I will be able to open up
my own Purse Shop.
The Yo Yo's are my favorite part of this bag.
And I love how Mom lined it ...
so you get the Yo Yo effect but don't have
to deal with important items falling
through the Yo Yo holes.
Plus, it looks really cute when you wear it.
{this picture makes me sad, I loved that sweater-
I recently washed it and it shrunk like 2 sizes.]
I digress.
You may support my Momma's shop
by showing her some love here.
