Precious Things

It took me a good hour to pick one of Tori's songs to share. I love every single one. Her first album is my favorite. I have been listening to it since my senior year of high school. I have the cassette tape that my friend DP gave me years ago, somewhere. I have been meaning to buy the CD for ages, and just never have. I might have to now, after listening to all the songs on YouTube this morning.

Music is one of my biggest inspirations, and I always have something playing in my studio while I'm making things. I love the heavy piano playing in Tori's music. My friend, DP, plays piano and is probably the most amazing piano player I know. I wish you could hear some of his work. I think that is why I love this CD so much, because it reminds me of him, and our friendship. We were inseparable from 10-12th grade. He was a few years younger than I was.

Nowadays he is living in DC and is a Music Director there at the school where he works. I wish I could hear him play again.
Tori will have to do, for now.

What are you listening to in your studio?

  7. I am usually the one who doesn't like music playing as I work (I get in a zone and don't want something disturbing me). Mom is the one who loves it when music is blaring (I yell at her if it is too loud in her car). So, I am nice and let her listen to music but we have to listen to my station on Slacker.com - 30 Seconds from Mars. I am really into them lately and any music that is close to their style.

  8. instead of music, I like to head to Netflix and play a really old movie.

I especially like the old black and whites. The clothes and jewelry are so extravagant and beautiful.

And when my eyes are too busy to watch, the witty banter is fun and inspiring to listen to as well.

Just listening to Lauren Bacall's voice in "How to Marry a Millionaire" puts me in a mood to think grand thoughts about my jewelry. It inspires me to "think big"!

  9. Lately it's been a lot of bubblegum pop/top 40's stuff. Not my personal fave, but the kid hears it at YMCA during the day and then wants me to download it for him. His current favorite is "Break Your Heart" by Taio Cruz and I have to admit it is pretty darn cute watching the kid sing "...they call me heartbreaker..."

  10. I like to listen to the songs from the first season of Glee because alot were broadway tunes. I also like to listen to U2 or Bruce Springstein. Tori's piano playing is lovely. Oh Oh, I absolutely love Norah Jones' "Don't Know Why". It always makes me think of snow, hot cocoa, and the holidays. It gives me warm fuzzies and is very calming to work to. Like the Clash and The Killers, too. Gonna investigate the others mentioned above like Regina Spector and Trent Wagler. I'm always up for new suggestions.

  12. Hmmm...I may have to drag Tori back out. Haven't listened to her in awhile. I really need to download some new music. I adore Sara Barilles (new release next month) and love Marc Broussard. Totally different sounds...but that's what makes it fun!

  14. I've been all about the classical lately - can't get enough. Music is such an inspiration to me - I've played the piano since I was three and it's always been a huge part of my life. I could listen to a pianist all day. :)
