funny.

Joe showed this to me this morning. I was grateful for the laugh. The last 24 hours have been no laughing matter. One thing you probably don't know about me is, I'm a bit of an Eeyore.  My Mother has always called me Eeyore. Sometimes it just takes me a while to see the good, or positive in situations.
Yesterday the Museum laid off 2 people I work closely with. It was a total shock, and due to budgetary reasons. The next few months are going to be a real adjustment. My current position there has now changed. Promoted. yes. But at the same time, losing a confidante, friend, boss, and mentor.  The new responsibility will be intense. I hope I can handle it.
It's such a shock how one day can be completely normal and then the next day, people can just be... gone.
I suppose I will just keep doing what I do. But if you don't see me here at the blog, as much as you have before- you'll know it's because I'm adjusting to a new demanding schedule.
Be thankful for your jobs!! It could be gone tomorrow!

  1. Oh L, that is so upsetting when it's just out-of-the-blue like that! It's such a shock to the system! Especially, when it's someone you like and work closely with. I feel for you. At least, it wasn't you! I know it's hard to feel good about your own position right now, though. I totally get that. I'm sure you feel for your boss. You will do fine, it may just take a little time.

  2. Dear Lorelei, that is not a small thing that suddenly changed in your life. Of course you are in chock. It will take you some time to adjust, but with such a clever and caring husband you will manage. Laughter is a wonderful way of dealing with difficulties. I love the five-minute-university. Thanks for charing. Right now I have been looking at that Old Spice advert many many times. I just love it. But perhaps you americans are tired of the hausse around it. It hasn't reached Sweden yet. And hey, Eyore was my favourite when I was a child. He is so cute! And Owl of course with all his wisdom. You loved Owl didn't you. That's when it all started ...

All my best. And you will cope!

  4. It is understandable that you are experiencing an intense emotional reaction right now after the latest news from work! Give it some time to digest. It sounds like you will have to wear some uncomfortable shoes right now until you shuffle around enough to make the leather supple. It's like in 'Eeyore Joins the Game', Piglet says, "It took me by surprise", and Eeyore responds, "That's what I call bouncing"! If you recall the story, Eeyore falls in the river, ends up on the other side, is helped by friends, and goes on to win at Poohsticks (a game that he had never played before)! Consider yourself bounced! The story has a good ending!

  5. Oh dear! Changes are difficult.... Good luck! If anyone can handle it, it's you! It is hard because jobs are so much a part of our lives. I know, working for a large corporation, that I don't have much control over what happens. But yes, I am always thankful for a job!

    Lorelei,

Gosh, I can't imagine the shock to have sudden change like that. I am sure it dampers your excitement for the promotion. Hope the transition goes as smoothly as possible! Best of luck!

  7. what a shock, it must be very disturbing, don't think it's Eeyoreness to be upset over this, being sad for your friend and shocked that your museum is feeling the economy crunch.
    you might need some chocolate...

  8. Times are so changing and very daunting times! Where there was once a feeling of security its like sinking sand now! You will adjust and be fine. Hang in there.

  9. Hang in there. I've gone through this myself. I work for a small company and within a matter of a few months...half of the staff was gone. It feels different, less comfortable. Friends and work-mates are missing. You'll get through this, but it's going to feel weird for a bit.
    Bead Happy!

  10. I am sorry to hear about your friends losing their jobs. I know how much fun work can be when you get to do your job with people you like and respect. It has been crazy for me, too. My husband"s company got bought over a few months ago and in order for him to keep a good position he accepted a job with the parent company and now commutes between Fl. and Michigan 4 days a week. It has been hard on the family but we don't want to move yet because we have a daughter in her last year of high school. It seems the economy has pushed people to make lots of difficult decisions. Even the people doing the firing. Can't be fun. Maybe the only solace is that we're all in the same boat and that eventually it's got to turn around for the better. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Best of luck in your new position.

  11. Thinking of you Lorelei! Having the shake up at work can leave you feeling so uncomfortable, helpless, vunerable, etc. When you are feeling overwhelmed, just try to take a deep breath, close your eyes for a moment and think about your beading (your own little relaxation place). I have been spoiled by home much you post on your blog. But I will learn to be patient and wait for when you can post. Be good to yourself through this tough time and know that others are supporting you!

  12. Como esta usted, Lori?
Good thing to remember that God is everywhere. And that we must be present to those around us and live in the moment. I am so sorry for the loss of your friends at work. I am going through shakeups at work too. There is nothing good about that. But I am sure that you will weather this storm and make the most of what is happening around you, despite your Eeyore-ness (me, too!). Know that I am thinking of you. Take.Good.Care.

    Enjoy the day!

  13. Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt...many, many times. At my former job, I survived about a layoff a year for the 8 years I was there. During year number 8, my number finally came up (there was no one else left) and it was my turn. In my current job, I've survived two layoffs and I believe a third one is pending later this year. I still have a job for now - doing the jobs of 3 people who were let go in the last round. Hang in there!

  14. Oh dear, I know how that feels, both losing dear coworkers, and losing a job I dearly loved all because of budget reductions or outsourcing. It cuts to the core. Feeling bad about your friends, and worried about your work load is to be expected. Give it some time--and you'll settle in nicely. In the mean time, give your friends a call or take them out to lunch to let them know you are there for them.

  16. Very sorry to hear that Lorelei! Well, the good thing for Eeyore when he was moping around about his house falling apart he always had Pooh and Tigger to help him put his life back together again. Lean on your friends in your time of need. Everything will work out in the end!

  20. Oh gosh, Lorelei,

I hope everything has settled a bit by now - or at least the thought of the adjustments. Yes, just breathe. My poor husband has been through 4 reorgs is four years. AHHHH! They will kill you if you let them. Just realize you can do what you can do and that's pretty much it. :)
