Fun with Focals!

Playing with Rings

I've been playing along with Heather Power's blog challenge of Fun with focals. This is the necklace I created for yesterday's challenge, using jump rings in the focal.

The hammered copper washers- I MADE EM! I'm dabbling in a little more metalworking and I didn't oxidize these but I plan on trying that next. Had a blast hammering the crapola outta these rings. More fun that I had imagined! I don't think they look too bad without oxidation. But I did buy some of that cool patina gel from Fundametals.net. I hope to try it out this weekend.

  1. Hey Lorelei that is awesome!! I love the way it turned out. I recently started making my own ear wirs and I am hoping to move along to something like this soon. Hammering is very therapeutic ;)

  2. Brilliant! The jump ring challenge has me stumped. I have to go back to the drawing board. This challenge is so fun... I worked on #1 and #2 last night. Wearing #1 as a test today...word is it is very funky and fun! And I made it with the ABS challenge in mind just in the nick of time! But alas, no light this morning... might go home at lunch to take some photos. Thanks for sharing! Your work is always such a delight!
    Enjoy the day!

  6. Aren't copper washers fun?! I love hammering them, too. Try using the Fretz hammers - you get amazing textures. (Jeanette has them at good prices.)
Plain ole liver of sulpher also gives beautiful patina on raw copper.

    Your piece turned out great!

  10. Cool! Simple yet still arty!

Agreed, I LOVE to hammer and patina! =) I always just go to liver of sulfur, but I've been wanting to branch out into new chemicals. Thanks for the tip about fundametals.net. I will go check that out!

I'm sorry to have to turn on the word verification here, but I got fed up with spammers comments!
